African American play(1811)
The play was really good the history of this play touch bases allot with sociology. It was about the 1811 slave revolt, for the people who don't know(that's when the slaves over threw their masters in a tragic attempt to make it to New Orleans from Haiti. One of the ways they connected ,it was said that African Americans are nothing more than ass backwards mules, and can not function with out the help of his master.Well this is the same way in education saying that they know nothing but with the help of a book and teacher you can become a functioning human as if you weren't already. It wasn't until the slaves started thinking critically about the things the can use around them to gain freedom is when they got what they wanted. Which is the same this black students can do,but with the school system taking the place of the white master, constantly believe they cannot achieve, which is the same for Latinos. Also showed that dividing the bright lights from the dim ones has been done trough out history simpley mines the slaves who where smart got into the busniess and brought their freedom while the less bright stayed to work. Which is the same in school the bright kids who are disapline tend to go on and make alot of money after grade school and collages while the others are left behind. (Ace)
Dream worlds or "Nightmare on fame street"
Hip hop has evolved from what it originally was back then men use to put there poetic nature to a beat to make smooth rhythm and rhymes but since then the gears of the 21th century, it has made hip hop a gritty degrading business not only for women but for the men that are in it too. On the first chimerical for MTV 2 it branded a woman's backside to show ownership. That is the classic cornerstone in almost all genres of music to have allot of females to show power and control over all. Woman's body are and important part of curacy in the music/video world even magazines like play boy magazine. For if some women would stop seeing dollar signs and say this is enough then this posture would never happen again. Therefore the link of females body to money, fame, and power is often used. This gives us a way to teach our young the wrong way of how to be men and women which recreates this destructive cycle, which our women may never recover from. In one video the artist had the women painted "gold" now to one who does not think critically it would seam ok because they are not naked but they are still have dress the paint is just over there bra and patties. Further more painting females gold has a more symbolic meaning that females are the highest priced contraband on earth, and they are the "tool" to drive all genres of music. This is so bad that to the public this seams females only function in society, very seldom showing there face only interested in two parts of there body there booty and tites. Another point i would like to make is some females in the music industry get treated like the peasants or animals of that world. Considering how you never see many female CEO"s or CFO's which men create that "class ceiling" that is applied in the corporate world. This happen in a home video on a rock bands tour bus a female was half naked and letting these men trow deli meat at her booty and all over her body. Now remember no one forced here or had a gun to her head and said let me do this to you. This was demoralizing, down right disrespectful but the question is how can you help or even defend some one who is letting this happen to them. If a person is condoning non-human like actions who is anyone to object to it. ace40
Chapter 3 "Whos fault is it,and where is the help"
School is the most over look place for gender sexually harassment. Gender harassment refers to comments and behavior's that are not explicit sexual in nature but none the less convey disrespect toward women. Some young men clearly don't know limits and how to draw the line between play and sexually harassment. One of the studies in chapter 3 asks some questions to young girls in school. "Have boys every called you out your name to make you feel bad?",51% out of 35 answered yes.Another important question was asked to further my point "Have boys ever grabbed or touched you and made you feel uncomfortable?",49% out of 35 answer yes,and when asked these two questions among others 89% answer yes two all. Now sometime boys always consorted these actions as fun and games. Like have you ever called girls out their name to make them feel bad, grabbed them in a wrong way,or made sexual comments toward them 70% over half called girls bad names and a staggering 80% grabbed them in a wrong way. Now I gave this info to make my question clear who's fault is it that these females are touch seeing that the percentile of these things are high and the females aren't fighting it off so who is the blame the school or the victims. And if it is the schools then where is the help? who are responsible for keeping these things in check which is happening on the school grounds or is nothing done because they have the same mind set as the young men and look at the situation as they are "just playing". My opinion is that these things are so often over looked in school that it is believed to be ok and then leads to further assaults out of school like rape and gang rape by friends of that male. This also creates a feeling for the males that the can do this to every female they meat because it is done everyday. In a interview Alica was asked "how often would you say that girls get touched inappropriately?" she responded "everyday". So in a not muter mind it seams this applies to every girl unless the girl stands up and say other wise but since they are so use to it and don't think its that serious all the time they don't say anything so who is really to blame if only a select few care about it. And how do you help the ones who do? Not many authority figures look at this problem as big its minute to the one not getting it done to them so it is over looked. ace40

chapter 4 "asleep"
Most people are asleep to the fact that delinquents are prayed upon by older men and adolescent there age. Moreover the are asleep to the fact that these young ones have something to do with why they are sexually abused sometime. It says "adolescent girls and young women have the highest rates of victimization." You have to ask yourself important questions when touching this subject, does she talk to the older guy as a friend and implied a sexual invitation, or does she where cloths to fit the part and where does she go, is it to a place where the rape rate is high etc. Some of the things you have to ask before you go playing the blame game. In no way am i coding the demoralizing fashion of rape on our urban women, but i am saying other things done by the victim constructs if they are targeted or not. They say the adolescents rape rate is high but why? Is it because of there vastly developing bodies,or is it because they embrace these new attributes and show them off for attention they never got earlier in life. So you tell me why as a girl walks down a street why is she whistle at and call vulgar names. My other point i will make is it goes pass the victims and the beginning of this situation sometime starts at home. Family problems also play apart in what happens to that females future. The coercion when ask "Have you every been sexually abused by someone in your family?', was 5 (14%) out of 35. That was a small percentile but it shows that the offender does not have everything to with the situation. That then brings the question what is the rest of the percent, are the girls letting it happen?or are they just to scare to do anything about it. For example in the text "Alica was first pressured at the age of 14 into unwanted sex by her boyfriend, later the same young man raped her and also arranged for his friends to run a train on her at her house. So why couldn't she fight this off maybe it was because she was used of it as the text further describes. "Felicia was sexually abused by a family friend when she was 6 and he was 16. So by this happening it sort of created a bad comfort zone the she became accustom to. ace40

Everybody Play A Part
Hip hop is like a "box" and to be inside this box you have to be masculine and tough, you can't let people see you are soft. A lot of young teens and suburban high class teens listen to hip hop. Hip hop portrays an image that the teens feel they may have to follow. Hip hop downs the women of the society. Hip hop makes it seem like it is ok to die and be violent. The teens in America are taght to be a man, be tough and take control. Hip hop basically is teaching people that you have to tough in order to survive and be a man and teens feel if they don't follow this image they would be consider soft.

the reason young me rap about killing other men and drugs is because this is what they know. i feel as though it is hard to rap about some thing you don't know about. what i am trying to say is that how can i rap about working at a major company if i never did this . but if i lived my whole life selling drugs and killing it would be easy for me to talk about this. in the reason that they down grade other men is because when you were own the block selling your drugs if you let some one call you a bitch i not do something about it every one would do it. in every man wants there respect. but what do you think would happen to donald trump to the hood what do you think would happen. he would fall, why because he is a product of his environment.

social isolation
to day we touch up a little on social isolation. this is when neighborhoods or divided by railroads and interstate. in these railroads are not wanted by the neighborhood but the government put them there any ways ith no concerns of what the people want. the only thing they care about is the money. so this makes it harder for urban youth to form a bond with each other an the only thing i want to know how would they feel if we were to put a road threw their back yard ?
to ace40
The comment you made was totally sexist, in this is coming from another man.You said that the types of clothing women wear provoke sexual assault. How can you feel this way. I think that women should be able to wear what ever they want and feel safe. What is the point for different types clothing's, in why should women feel restricted by what they want to wear. how would you feel if some one told you that you only can wear purple shorts. This isnt rite you a basicly taking away these young ladys freedom. these women should be able to wear what ever they want what out the fear of being sexually assualted in beat. in for you ace40 how would you feel if someone was to rape your mother our sister because what they was wearing.

Gender'n the hood
For adolescent in disadvantaged Urban communities, neighborhoods represent a major feature of social life. It is said that the neighborhood construct everything that goes on,what happens in the hood does not happen in the subberbs so they say. These pelopefeel so safe with that statement how could you when young toddlers get kidnapped in broad daylight so how does that make one living place different from another. I do admit that males are more safe in the hood because they can better protect their self, but some females get raped and don't say anything now who fault is that.I would give most of the blame to the people around the crime doe as one girl said "a lady was being dragged by her hair up the street and being punched in the face, with 6 pelopestanding around no one called the cops. So don't blame the girls don't blame black me blame the ones you call friend.

Getting played
This is a thouch topic when you are talking about who fault it is for female sexual abuse. One thing that can be said for sure is that all of the blame cant be put on the offender or the common offender which tends to look like the typical young black male. Some of the questions that are never ask is were you friendly to a young man, lead him on to sexual intent, did you wear the right colths around him, etc. These are all thing that can construt rather a girl gets sextually abused or not. Now i am very aware of the fact that some offenders dont know these young ladys and still thouch them.so some of the blame goes directley to them. But it would be unwise to say that females are just bugs waititng to be prayed upon, when they put a spot on their back sometime that says "im over here come get me" Makeing it clear with their high shorts, half shirts and tights as toght as skin.
It's Not Funny
I don't believe it is right for someone to laugh at another person get beat senseless just because they are labeled negatively. It is not right for anyone to be hit or beat and no label should be a justifiable reason for someone to endure that type of treatment. I know at times people may feel like "if the person not doing nothing to help themselves why should I". At times it is not easy and can get a little frustrating to constantly help someone who isn't trying to help themselves. If I am going out of my way to help you and you go back to the same situation, why am I going to continue to help you? That is how some people feel, it makes it hard for them to extend themselves when in the past nothing changed. I don't think that should stop someone for trying to help another person. If I see someone getting beat up or in a situation that don't look right, I'm not going to try to stop it myself I'm going to get someone else to help out. I wouldn't just sit by and let it happen, so at the end of the day I could at least say I tried.

It Is Not Women's Fault
I enjoyed what chapter one of "Getting Played" is talking about. Everything the book mentioned is true. Women are victimized and the things that happen to them, rape and abuse, is not their fault. Often at times women, blame themselves for the things that happen, any type of abuse.
When abuse is done in communties it is often ignored. People feel that it is not their place to get in other people business, the author mentioned that in the book. So abuse is often not reported or even unknown.

The End
In the end some of the students seem like they didn't care anymore. After they stop tue program everything just turned around, the students and their attitudes. The children gave up on, they feel like the people don't care about them. To me it seem like the children gave up when the program ended. It seem like they didn't really have much to look forward to, the suspension of the program changed their look on things. The program gave them the hope and faith they needed.
Social formal informal control
Social control to get people to act a certain way. Formal control to get people to behave by giving some type of punishment. We won't continue to act certain way or do a certain things if the peoPle around us check us on it, informal control. In the video one of the kids were going to leave but the other the students encouraged him to stay. This is a way to get the people a chance to work together instead of going against each other.
Growing Up
The children who misbehave are sent to this base camp instead of being suspended and sent home. The children to have grown a whole lot from when they first started the school. They seem to enjoy themselves and grow from their experiences.
Kids have dreams
The young children have faith and hope if you don't take it from them. They have a lot that they look forward to, a better future. The students in the video are proud to be going to Africa. Their neighborhoods are not the very best ones, I would be excited to get away from what they have to live through too.
The parents want better lives for their children but it is so much they could do. The place they live is not really the land of opportunity. Most of the students live in poor urban neighborhoods. The students want a better life theirselves too. When you live in a place like they do, your dreams don't seem real anymore, especially when you have people like that teacher telling them their most likely going to end up dead or in jail.

Teachers are a mess
She don't really sound like she is encouraging the students. She don't try to give them the benefit of doubt. I know you have to be real with the children but give them some kind of hope.

African American Play (1811)
The play was nice, i enjoyed it. The was staged outside, i had never been to play outside. One line that one of the characters said that I liked. I don't remember it word for word but it was something like I don't this for our children and our children's children. He was trying to escape to New Orleans and be a free man. I like this line because this lets me know that they wasn't just going through all those troubles just for them but to make things better for generations after them.

i think that young men and women in the New Orleans school system want to learn but have been programed not to care about there education. But i think the argument that charter schools are better then public schools is bull shit . i feel this way because charter school or only these schools with facilities with watered down education were as if you pump some of this technology into public schools we would be capable of doing better then we have been doing. but if charter school or better then public school but why is it that McDonogh#35 graduated more students last year then almost all charter schools. also i think that these charter school are also teaching kids the mentality of a slave. while watching reborn one of the kids said that when they make a bad grade that they get put on this punishment called bench. on this punishment these young student have to be quiet and Can not participate with the rest of the class. now if I'm correct learn mean to retain knowledge that is taught to you. so if you cant talk how can you do this .

publice schools:reborn
This is the big picture I don't get the downgraded image of the public schools is talk about so much yet McDonald 35 graduated 250 seniors when charter schools only graduated 120. Something to think about when you involved a new system that has loop holes
young students
young people have high expectations vut they just do not know the older they get the more they would realize what there really is out there for them

"The Little Stitches In A Big Quilt"
The little stitches of a big quilt are theses individual stories presented in chapter 3. I have been in agreement with the fact stated in chapter 2 was said that "the kids who go trough this opinion's are not took in to mind when discussing their education. Its funny how just because my skin is a darker color i have to be watch when entering a store because my finical situations looks like its not like yours. Therefore the government knows of all the struggle poverty ricking families go trough and still do nothing. For example kids dance (break dance)on sub-way trains with a box asking for spare chance.Black people are looked at as a whole so much that the few different "stitches" that Africa Americans and Latinos have are hardly notice, do to lack of opportunities and racial profile. which dates back early if the talk of politics is about public education then why "in New York city there have been drastic budget cuts to youth employment programs as well the decades long underfunding of public schools by the state of government have deeply affected their lives." In the fact that this continues then not a underclass living person will make it past the micro level of the labor force and make a difference in this world./D.C.S
how the school system really work
Message body
Things in this city has always been messed up espically the school system. The schoolboard and officials seend from the beginning that those tests was a problem and if they didn't see in the beginning they should it now. A lot of the students in da video we viewed in class were struglling with trying to pass the leap. They were trying some gave up but some said they would continue taking the test. I hate the fact that they have the test as requirement to graduate beacuase that really hold the students back. One of the students mentioned in the video who was the highest in her class couldn't pass the GEE. One my teachers told me he feel as though the leap and GEE is keeping us from learning everything there is to learn. The teachers have to teach what they think is going to be on the test and not everything they could be teaching besides what's on the test. I agree with him we can't learn everything because the curriculum is based on the leap and GEE. The
school system in this city don't care bout none of that I don't think they care bout the school system at all . In the video one of the students said that his teacher ask him to pay him them so he could pass the course. This goes to show how much the teachers really care about putting in the hard work to help the students succeed. I feel like the school system is failing the students because they feel like whether we learn or not they will still get paid, many of my teachers have said that. I'm not gon try to talk bad about them they would say this when the class got out of control and that go back to the school system. If the class wasn't over crowded and we didn't have to share books I don't think the teachers would have to make that statement. Its hard to teach an over crowded class with all those students talking. I have had to learn in that type of environment many times but I tried to stay focus and get my work done. No one should have to try to
learn under those conditions.

They (experts) don't understand
body
The analyst and speakers think they are right. They always quick to judge. They say that the young people today don't care about their education and everything that go wrong is all our fault. That's not true the children just have a lot going on around them that they have to deal with. Most people would say that the problems surrounding them should motivate them to better. Everybody don't deal with their problems the same way, some build walls and lash out. They realize it but they are hurting their self in the end. In chapter 2 of "our school sucks" the students express their self in their journals. In their journals they confess to what they been doing and the fact that they do care but nobody would be able to tell because they build walls and hide their true feelings because they don't want to show everybody their vulnerability. They blame their self but it is not entirely their fault. If you had to attend a school with over crowded classrooms where
there isn't enough books for everybody that wouldn't motivate you at all. The analyst don't look at all that they just look at what statistics show them. Those statistics is not a good source of information because the statistics do not show evrything just numbers. What could a number tell you, nothing. They should talk to the students and get the real deal of what's going in schools from someone going through it every day of their life

I Agree
while reading chapter one of our school sucks i noticed something that Anderson said. I can"t find exactly what he said but he was basically saying most of the people who come up with the different assumptions are outsiders. He was saying they don't experience all the conditions that strudents do. If they do visit poor urban schools they just stay for an houtr or so and walk around. they are truely outsiders and don't know first hand everything that is going on.

"Nothing in life is said in stone" still People live and abuse the earth is if it self replenish over night. The world is constantly changing and not for the better, but not an urgency marker flares. Just go through everyday life as if we are here forever
Trends of struggling teenagers
Its funny how teenagers can find clarity in love songs, love movies and other things that seam relevant to their life at that time. But when it comes to finding clarity in a book or some form of literary work its like another language. The lack of wiliness to read even a 3 stanza poem is horrible. That is the poison of this generation that keeps on giving and never allows us to become healthy again.

How would you modify the school system and assess students
If i were to modify the the school system, i would modify it to where the students would be able to attend schools that adapt to students' learning abilities rather than students too teachers' teaching methods. I think that this way would help to make the system of education more efficient and promising. As far as assessing the students, there could or should be a way to assess the students based on their specific curriculum.
How to Improve Schools and Assess Students
If i could reform school i would make it so that you can go to school to prepare you for different groups of jobs. To asses student there will be a choice of a oral test or a written test given by a group of certified teacher. after these test or given the students will then tbe placed in their respected school. the techers will then teach the studnts by their learing style.
How to Improve Schools and Assess Students
I think a way to improve schools is to not make testing so hard the students. I mean to not make weigh so heavy. Now I am in the 11th grade and we take the GEE and in order to graduate I have to past that test. I could have made good grades and everything but if i don't past that test I'm not going to be able to graduate. i think that is unfair for the students who are not good test takers. I think there should still be testing but not put so much pressure on the students. I would make it easier for people to get into schools. There wouldn't be private schools everybody school would be the same. Public schools don't always get everything that private schools get. If you take out the private schools, all schools would be given everything they need, not based on their standardized test scores. I think test scores determining how much money a school get is stupid. If the schools did have the money to get everything they need to work with the students I think test scores would would be higher than what the scores are now.

If i could design a new school system i would make the system appliy to the kids learning style.
From a very young age i would test the kids for learning style actions, are the auditorial or visual etc.
