The End

In the end some of the students seem like they didn't care anymore. After they stop tue program everything just turned around, the students and their attitudes. The children gave up on, they feel like the people don't care about them. To me it seem like the children gave up when the program ended. It seem like they didn't really have much to look forward to, the suspension of the program changed their look on things. The program gave them the hope and faith they needed.

Social formal informal control

Social control to get people to act a certain way. Formal control to get people to behave by giving some type of punishment. We won't continue to act certain way or do a certain things if the peoPle around us check us on it, informal control. In the video one of the kids were going to leave but the other the students encouraged him to stay. This is a way to get the people a chance to work together instead of going against each other.

Growing Up

The children who misbehave are sent to this base camp instead of being suspended and sent home. The children to have grown a whole lot from when they first started the school. They seem to enjoy themselves and grow from their experiences.

Kids have dreams

The young children have faith and hope if you don't take it from them. They have a lot that they look forward to, a better future. The students in the video are proud to be going to Africa. Their neighborhoods are not the very best ones, I would be excited to get away from what they have to live through too.

The parents want better lives for their children but it is so much they could do. The place they live is not really the land of opportunity. Most of the students live in poor urban neighborhoods. The students want a better life theirselves too. When you live in a place like they do, your dreams don't seem real anymore, especially when you have people like that teacher telling them their most likely going to end up dead or in jail.

Teachers are a mess

She don't really sound like she is encouraging the students. She don't try to give them the benefit of doubt. I know you have to be real with the children but give them some kind of hope.

African American Play (1811)

The play was nice, i enjoyed it. The was staged outside, i had never been to play outside. One line that one of the characters said that I liked. I don't remember it word for word but it was something like I don't this for our children and our children's children. He was trying to escape to New Orleans and be a free man. I like this line because this lets me know that they wasn't just going through all those troubles just for them but to make things better for generations after them.

i think that young men and women in the New Orleans school system want to learn but have been programed not to care about there education. But i think the argument that charter schools are better then public schools is bull shit . i feel this way because charter school or only these schools with  facilities with watered down education were as if you pump some of this technology into public schools we would be capable of doing better then we have been doing. but if charter school or better then public school but why is it that McDonogh#35 graduated more students last year then almost all charter schools. also i think that these charter school are also teaching kids the mentality of a slave. while watching reborn one of the kids said that when they make a bad grade that they get put on this punishment called bench. on this punishment these young student have to be quiet and Can not participate with the rest of the class. now if I'm correct learn mean to retain knowledge that is taught to you. so if you cant talk how can you do this .

publice schools:reborn

This is the big picture I don't get the downgraded image of the public schools is talk about so much yet McDonald 35 graduated 250 seniors when charter schools only graduated 120. Something to think about when you involved a new system that has loop holes

young students

young people have high expectations vut they just do not know the older they get the more they would realize what there really is out there for them

"The Little Stitches In A Big Quilt"

The little stitches of a big quilt are theses individual stories presented in chapter 3. I have been in agreement with the fact stated in chapter 2  was said that "the kids who go trough this opinion's are not took in to mind when discussing their education. Its funny how just because my skin is a darker color i have to be watch when entering a store because my finical situations looks like its not like yours. Therefore the government knows of all the struggle poverty ricking families go trough and still do nothing. For example kids dance (break dance)on sub-way trains with a box asking for spare chance.Black people are looked at as a whole so much that the few different "stitches" that Africa Americans and Latinos have are hardly notice, do to lack of opportunities and racial profile. which dates back early if the talk of politics is about public education then why "in New York city there have been drastic budget cuts to youth employment programs as well the decades long underfunding of public schools by the state of government have deeply affected their lives." In the fact that this continues then not a underclass living person will make it past the micro level of the labor force and make a difference in this world./D.C.S

how the school system really work

Message body

Things in this city has always been messed up espically the school system. The schoolboard and officials seend from the beginning that those tests was a problem and if they didn't see in the beginning they should it now. A lot of the students in da video we viewed in class were struglling with trying to pass the leap. They were trying some gave up but some said they would continue taking the test. I hate the fact that they have the test as requirement to graduate beacuase that really hold the students back. One of the students mentioned in the video who was the highest in her class couldn't pass the GEE. One my teachers told me he feel as though the leap and GEE is keeping us from learning everything there is to learn. The teachers have to teach what they think is going to be on the test and not everything they could be teaching besides what's on the test. I agree with him we can't learn everything because the curriculum is based on the leap and GEE. The
school system in this city don't care bout none of that I don't think they care bout the school system at all . In the video one of the students said that his teacher ask him to pay him them so he could pass the course. This goes to show how much the teachers really care about putting in the hard work to help the students succeed. I feel like the school system is failing the students because they feel like whether we learn or not they will still get paid, many of my teachers have said that. I'm not gon try to talk bad about them they would say this when the class got out of control and that go back to the school system. If the class wasn't over crowded and we didn't have to share books I don't think the teachers would have to make that statement. Its hard to teach an over crowded class with all those students talking. I have had to learn in that type of environment many times but I tried to stay focus and get my work done. No one should have to try to
learn under those conditions.

They (experts) don't understand

body
The analyst and speakers think they are right. They always quick to judge. They say that the young people today don't care about their education and everything that go wrong is all our fault. That's not true the children just have a lot going on around them that they have to deal with. Most people would say that the problems surrounding them should motivate them to better. Everybody don't deal with their problems the same way, some build walls and lash out. They realize it but they are hurting their self in the end. In chapter 2 of "our school sucks" the students express their self in their journals. In their journals they confess to what they been doing and the fact that they do care but nobody would be able to tell because they build walls and hide their true feelings because they don't want to show everybody their vulnerability. They blame their self but it is not entirely their fault. If you had to attend a school with over crowded classrooms where
there isn't enough books for everybody that wouldn't motivate you at all. The analyst don't look at all that they just look at what statistics show them. Those statistics is not a good source of information because the statistics do not show evrything just numbers. What could a number tell you, nothing. They should talk to the students and get the real deal of what's going in schools from someone going through it every day of their life
